Here we have now the primary occasion of an M1 Garand rifle being fitted for sniper obligation. This is the M1C and it&#8217;s the precursor to the M1D which I&#8217;ve already talked about in a earlier Photo of the Day. Developed in 1944, these rifles had been to switch the M1903 rifles that had been within the sniper rifle position. It is estimated that approximately 4,000 were produced during WWII with hundreds provided to various NATO allies in the late 1950s\/early 1960s and hundreds destroyed by the U.S. Government in the 1980\/90s. This rifle was originally manufactured in late January 1945. It was overhauled\/rebuilt at some point, and it is now fitted with a Springfield Armory barrel marked \u201c1-SA-3-45\u2033. It is fitted with a set of WWII Springfield Armory manufactured parts, as follows: Bolt,\u201d -19SA\u201d, Hammer \u201c-8 SA\u201d, Trigger Housing, \u201c-18-SA\u201d, uncut Op Rod, \u201cD35382-9SA\u201d. It is fitted with an earlier WWII kind locking bar rear sights with a post-WWII broad base fuel cylinder and an unmarked spherical prime fuel cylinder lock and four-slot fuel plug. It has an identical scope base, fitted with three screws and two taper pins that&#8217;s numbered \u201c3495473\u201d on the underside. The rifle comes with an authentic blue, WWII Griffin &amp; Howe scope mount numbered \u201c3512408\u201d; it seems the final two digits have been over stamped. The mount is fitted with a late WWII M82 sniper scope, marked on the left facet: \u201cTELESCOPE M82\/SERIAL NO. 40743\/STOCK NO. F001-0084688\u201d. It has the usual \u201cPost\u201d crosshair reticle and an authentic rubber eyecup. It is fitted with walnut handguard set and a walnut buttstock. The inventory is fitted with a really good authentic WWII \u201cK-Line\u201d stamped leather-based cheekpad. The inventory is stamped on the left facet with boxed \u201cSA\/NFR\u201d cartouche and a circled \u201cP\u201d proof within the grip space.
