<\/figure>\n<\/div>\nA federal modification to Bill C-21 proposes to ban any semi-auto shotgun or centrefire rifle \u201cdesigned to accept a detachable cartridge magazine with a capacity greater than five cartridges of the type for which the firearm was originally designed.\u201d<\/p>\n
The proposal was launched by Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security member and Markham-Unionville MP Paul Chiang on Tuesday, Nov. 22.<\/p>\n
An inventory of particular firearms that will likely be included within the proposed ban has not been launched, however the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH)<\/a><\/strong> mentioned the definition is \u201cextremely broad and will almost certainly include many traditional hunting firearms.\u201d Details on when the proposed ban would take impact or how it could be carried out have are usually not but out there.<\/p>\n \u201cThe OFAH has reached out to the government for more information and clarity on the impact of these amendments and will continue to recommend concrete actions that will address gun crime while minimizing the impact on the hunting community,\u201d OFAH Manager of Policy Mark Ryckman mentioned.<\/p>\n \u201cChanges of this magnitude warrant the same level of critical analysis and debate in the political arena that has been given to other aspects of Bill C-21.
