The Greek brothers are veteran Celebrity officers with greater than 50 years of service to the cruise line between them. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-star-powered-siblings-at-the-helm\">\u2018Star-Powered Siblings\u2019 on the Helm <\/h2>\n<p>Like ships that cross within the evening, co-captains Dimitrios Kafetzis and Tasos Kafetzis will serve three-month rotating assignments on <em>Celebrity Ascent<\/em>. Their appointments mark the second time Celebrity Cruises has charted new territory on the bridge: The line in 2015 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruisehive.com\/who-is-captain-kate-mccue\/69911\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>selected Kate McCue as captain<\/strong><\/a> of <em>Celebrity Edge<\/em>, making her the business\u2019s first feminine cruise ship captain. <\/p>\n<p>Captain Dimitrios has been with Celebrity Cruises since 1990, his brother since 1998. I am so proud to leave her in the hands of these expert mariners.\u201d <\/p>\n<h2>The Pinnacle of Maritime Careers <\/h2>\n<p>Captain Dimitrios has spent his total maritime profession at Celebrity Cruises, beginning as an Apprentice Officer onboard Celebrity\u00a0Horizon in 1990. He graduated from the Merchant Maritime Academy of Syros-Athens. According to the cruise line, he was on the start-up groups for <em>Celebrity\u00a0Millennium<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Celebrity\u00a0Infinity<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Celebrity Silhouette<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Celebrity Apex<\/em>, and served as captain of <em>Celebrity Apex<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><picture decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-93054 sp-no-webp\"><\/source><\/source><\/picture><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photo Courtesy: Celebrity Cruises<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Captain Dimitrios mentioned,<\/strong> <em>\u201cNearly 35 years after Celebrity Cruises was founded in Greece, they will have not one, but two Greek captains taking the helm of their newest vessel in 2023 and I am honored for my brother and I to take this role, together. We look forward to welcoming everyone on board\u00a0Celebrity Ascent\u00a0this winter.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Captain Tasos joined Celebrity after graduating from the Merchant Marine College, and was concerned within the launches of\u00a0<em>Celebrity Summit<\/em>, <em>Celebrity Solstice<\/em>, <em>Celebrity Equinox<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Celebrity Reflection<\/em>. To share a special moment together like this is something I could have only dreamed of.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Construction Continues After Float Out <\/h2>\n<p><em>Celebrity Ascent<\/em>, the fourth within the line\u2019s Edge Series, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruisehive.com\/fourth-edge-class-celebrity-cruise-ship-floats-out-at-shipyard\/92837\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>reached a significant development milestone<\/strong><\/a> on January 21 when it was floated out of the shipyard.
