As the \u2018post-pandemic\u2019 world opens up once more, many people have raced to recapture the thrill of carefree journey. But if COVID-19 taught us something, it\u2019s to not take our freedom, planet or well being as a right.<\/strong> We spoke to 1 brave traveller who, after a life-changing accident, is embarking on adventures at her personal tempo.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In October 2018, 22-year-old journey lover Morag Forbes had the world at her ft. Newly graduated, she had not too long ago moved to London for a busy position within the rail trade and was wanting ahead to an extended weekend in Madrid<\/a> with pals in November. This lady was going locations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But at some point, as she cycled dwelling from work, Morag was knocked off her bike in a success and run. In an instantaneous, her life was turned the other way up.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t think I would ever travel abroad again.\u201d<\/h2>\n

Before the accident, Morag had been an enthusiastic globetrotter. \u201cTravel has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I was lucky to grow up travelling the world with my family. Then as I got older, I started travelling independently. From attending a conservation course in Kruger, South Africa<\/a> to studying abroad in Rotterdam, Netherlands<\/a> for a year, to travelling solo around South East Asia<\/a>. Travel was a part of my identity. It never occurred to me that one day I wouldn\u2019t be able to adventure with such ease anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the accident, journey needed to take a backseat for Morag. She needed to study to stroll once more and underwent 4 knee surgical procedures to regain use of her proper leg. Unfortunately, a slew of different, unexplained signs appeared \u2013 from weakened imaginative and prescient, lack of steadiness and persistent joint and muscle ache in her proper leg and hip, to problem with high quality motor abilities and the occasional misfiring of the messages between her mind and proper limbs.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Not solely did Morag\u2019s ache and diminished mobility pose an impediment when it got here to journey \u2013 her new disabilities raised sensible obstacles too. \u201cAs long as I had an undiagnosed neurological issue, I couldn\u2019t get travel insurance anywhere, for any amount of money.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Furthermore, psychological well being struggles introduced on by the traumatic incident, exacerbated by lengthy hospital ready lists and a number of COVID-19 lockdowns, made restoration much more difficult. \u201cThere was certainly a grief process to go through\u201d, says Morag, now 26. \u201cIn some ways lockdown was easier because no-one was going anywhere. Then the world started re-opening and people started their lives back and I was still stuck. I didn\u2019t think I would ever travel abroad again.\u201d<\/p>\n
