SkirtsAfire Festival started (as so many good concepts do) with pink wine, popcorn, and a few sensible girls! The pageant was created to deal with the gender inequity that ladies artists have been experiencing within the theatre neighborhood and bigger multidisciplinary arts communities, from lack of roles for ladies to a disparity inside management positions. SkirtsAfire was constructed to create alternatives for ladies within the arts and to focus on the range of their tales. In conjunction with International Women’s Day, this yr’s 11-day programming options a wide selection of passionate, transformative, and interesting women-led performances, workshops, and reveals.
Starting out on Alberta Avenue, the pageant has grown and developed over the 12 years it has been operating. Since 2012, SkirtsAfire has produced over 182 reveals, 24 workshops, 24 reveals, and given alternatives to over 1455 girls. Additionally, over 21,860 viewers members have visited the pageant!
