Welcome to at this time’s Photo of the Day! Here we have now a Colt copycat by…Colt. This is the Colt Junior Pocket Pistol. It was a smashing success when Colt launched their Colt 1908 Vest Pocket, a “hammerless” 25 ACP pocket pistol. Despite its success and roughly 400,000 manufacturing numbers, the Colt Vest Pocket was discontinued in 1941 (more than likely to do their artwork within the warfare effort throughout World War II). Colt felt the repercussions of this discontinuation throughout the mid-Forties and determined to convey again their Vest Pocket pistol in 1946. When it got here again the reception was lukewarm because of the dozens of cheaper and unlicensed copies popping up from overseas producers. Apparently, Colt should have gone the “can’t beat them, join them” route since they contracted with Astra Unceta y Ca to provide their Astra Cub as the brand new and funky Colt Junior in 1954. Actual Colt-branded ones didn’t pop up till 1958. The Colt Junior by no means actually lived as much as the popularity of the Vest Pocket and was discontinued in 1968.
