It’s that point of 12 months once more — black bears are rising from their dens to forage.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reminded Ontarians to Be Bear Wise to keep away from undesirable encounters, in a current launch.
Preventing bears
- Storing rubbish in waste containers with tight-fitting lids (indoors if doable)
- Waiting till pickup day to place out rubbish
- Taking away hen feeders for the spring and summer time (you may provide birds pure options, akin to flowers, nesting containers and recent water)
- Cleaning meals residue and grease from outside barbecue grills – together with grease traps – after every use
- Keeping pet meals indoors
If you encounter a bear in a non-threatening state of affairs, name the toll-free Bear Wise reporting line (1-866-514-2327). The line is open 24/7 from April 1 to November 30. Otherwise, stay calm and name 911 instantly.
