HP Athens and Southern Hospitality Group Sell Hyatt Place Athens Downtown

ATLANTA — The hotel brokers at Hunter Hotel Advisors just played matchmaker for a prime piece of Athens, Georgia real estate. They’ve successfully handed over the keys to the 190-room Hyatt Place Athens Downtown. The sale was a team effort, brokered by Hunter’s own Tim Osborne.

The new owner, a local investor with excellent taste in college towns, has already tapped Pyramid Global Hospitality to run the show. We’re sure they’ll keep the coffee hot and the beds made.

So, what’s the big deal about this hotel? Well, imagine a location so good it practically sells itself:

  • It’s Convention Central: Attached to The Classic Center, which hosts a dizzying 650+ events a year. (That’s a lot of name tags.)

  • It’s a Sports Fan’s Dream: Steps from the hallowed grounds of the University of Georgia and the 93,000-strong roar of Sanford Stadium. Go Dawgs!

  • It’s the Party Spot: Home to one of Athens’ only rooftop bars (the HyBar), meaning guests can enjoy a drink without having to shout “GOOOOO DAWGS!” over the crowd. (But they probably still will.)

“As a proud UGA alum, working on this deal was a privilege,” said Tim Osborne, Hunter’s SVP and resident Athens expert. “This place is ground zero for football fans, convention-goers, and now, with the new Akins Ford Arena next door, for anyone who likes their concerts with a side of state-of-the-art.”

In short, the new owner didn’t just buy a hotel; they bought the best spot in town to catch a game, a concert, a convention, and a rooftop cocktail.
